Gränsfors Bruk

Over more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruks AB has built up a business based around handcrafted axes and axe expertise, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility. Today, 30 people work here in production and sales. 80 percent of the production is exported to 30 countries.

When it comes to the quality and feel of the axes, much depends on the experience and skill of the individual craftsman. Each axe is signed with the smith’s initials as a guarantee of quality.

The company is located in the Swedish village of Gränsfors in northern Hälsingland, around 10 km west of the E4 motorway, between Hudiksvall and Sundsvall. The forge sits at the heart of the village and you can hear the rhythmic pounding as you approach.

The axe forge is open weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm. You are more than welcome to visit us and see our axes being forged, sharpened, tempered and fitted with handles.

In addition to the forge and a factory shop, there is also an axe museum and during the summer a restaurant, café and craft courses in subjects such as forging and log-building.

More info

The Gränsfors Bruk "Outdoor Axe" was developed with the help of survival expert Lars Fält, and is ideal for those who want to use an axe in different ways when out and about in the countryside. Although it is light, it can be used to fell a tree, thanks to its relatively long handle and heavy, elongated head.

The axe is also excellent for limbing a tree. The handle has a protective steel collar near the head so that the axe can be used for light wood splitting tasks. It can also be used as a large knife.

The axe is delivered with a leather sheath.

Lars Fält, who worked with Gränsfors Bruk to design the Gränsfors Outdoor Axe, established the Swedish Armed Forces Survival School and has trained the Swedish Army Ranger Battalion for 35 years at the Ranger School and Parachute Ranger School. He has also written 10 books on survival and outdoor pursuits.
