Millennial heritage, modern innovation.

Since ancient times, the axe has embodied a duality between work and combat tool, evolving over the years to become a symbol of power and versatility. Its use as a working tool dates to 6000 BC, while the first documented wartime use is dated between 700 and 600 BC during the Etruscan era, as evidenced by the stele of Auvele Felùske in Vetulonia. Throughout the world, from Europe to Ancient Egypt to the Far East, the combat axe has stood out for its immediate effectiveness in battle, requiring less complex training than other tools, but ensuring decisive performance in close combat.

Extrema Ratio, Comsubin official supplier, reimagines this millenary tradition with Estrema, a tactical axe developed for the G.O.I. (Operational Raiders Group) of the Italian Navy. Estrema combines the robustness and speed of this historical weapon with technological innovation thanks to its cutting-edge design, offering a versatile and reliable tool for the most demanding missions. Suitable as a tactical combat tool as well as a breaching tool, Estrema is designed to face any challenge. The name ‘Estrema’ (Extreme) symbolizes the nature of this model; this is our most extreme product, the result of our most daring production experience.

Estrema is made of Böhler N690 steel hardened to 54 HRC and features a Dark Stone finish. The G10 handle offers two ways of use; by gripping the end of the handle you get the traditional handle, whereas a tighter grip favors a closer use. The shank in its final section can be used as a burglary tool for opening doors and windows, but also for cutting and opening metal sheets. In addition, the taper allows it to be used as a lever or a crowbar.

Estrema can be equipped with a hammer (pounding mass) made of heat-treated carbon steel, which hooks and unhooks from the axe pick by means of a snap mechanism with a safety to avoid accidental disengagements. This device is the first of its kind within the field, making the axe even more versatile. The hammer is an optional accessory that can be purchased separately exclusively on www.extremaratio.com (extremaratiousa.com for US citizens only).

Estrema comes inside an airtight technical case with an innovative design, inside which there is also a Kydex sheath and a belt clip.

The ambidextrous Kydex sheath is designed to offer different carry modes and provide numerous fixing options to the user’s equipment. It can be attached to the belt through a belt clip, included in the case, or fixed to any surface equipped with MOLLE system webbings using a paracord. Axe retention is guaranteed by the natural shape of Kydex and its elasticity, supported by a lace fastened with snap buttons.
